From 2006 until 2012, we have donated 456.086 Peach Palm (Bactris gasipaes) and Brazil Nut (Bertholletia excelsa – that also names our Institute) tree scions.
Both species have the essential characteristics for the program basis: they are native trees, which products are part of the region’s consumption habits; they are perfectly fit for cultivation and also restore the degraded soil; they generate high value-added products in well known markets.
Those trees are planted in the inhabitant’s properties and they belong to them. Nowadays, 100 communities are involved and more than 1.000 families are being benefited.
This way, the Forest’s Life and its Inhabitant’s are being reconstructed simultaneously.
